The LANAP® Procedure is a breakthrough in periodontal treatments. It is a laser alternative to gum surgery.
Periodontal disease is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. It starts off as plaque which is an opaque film that over time will harden into tartar or calculus.
The bacteria in the calculus can infect the gums. Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease. With gingivitis, gums are red and swollen and when you brush your teeth they will bleed. Other symptoms are bad breath and an unpleasant taste in your mouth. When gingivitis is not taken care of it will lead to periodontitis. It is a serious form of gum disease. Periodontal pockets will form, this separates the teeth from the gums and supporting bone structure. The infection will become severe if not treated. The pockets will deepen and you can lose your tooth.
To repair the damage from periodontitis the infection needs to be cleaned out and the open periodontal pockets needs to be closed up. Our office offers the LANAP® Procedure an alternative from gum surgery.
